The ever-growing world of social media is constantly changing. As a writer and creative, the pressure to keep up can feel overwhelming.

Some writers thrive in the fast-paced setting of reels, hashtags, and video content, but for many, it feels like constant striving with few visible results.

If you feel like your voice is getting lost in a sea of voices, it might be time for a social media reset. Consider stepping back and reevaluating your purpose, process, and productivity.

There are many methods and strategies to think about if you need a social media reset.

Let’s unpack a simple process to get started:

1. Identify your purpose.

Identify in one sentence the impact you want to have on social media. From that sentence, choose your top three subjects that fit within your niche to create posts about. Be specific with your post to focus on your core message.

Before you post, consider whether the message you are sending resonates with your target audience and meets the needs of your readers. This simple thought practice will shift the way you think and post.

For example, if you love to encourage women through God’s Word, your three subjects might be Bible study, encouragement from the Bible, and deeper faith. All three of these subjects fit within the impact sentence of “encourage women through God’s Word.”

Before proceeding to Step 2, complete this step to identify your purpose.

    2. Consider your process.

Think about how often you can realistically post considering your season of life and professional goals. Will you create multiple posts in one setting and schedule them for later? Will you create one post at a time when you feel like it? Will you use a mix of preplanning and organic posting?

Your process matters. If you do not plan your process, you most likely will not be consistent, and you might even quit.

Make the decision before you begin on what your creative process will look like. Failing to plan is planning to fail. You don’t have to continue striving in this overcrowded online world. You can thrive with a little forethought and effort.

    3. Activate your productivity.

This is where the magic happens. Simply get to work. Set realistic goals for your social media posting. Think about how many times a week you want to post. Put it on your calendar, and make it happen.

Consider which outlet you enjoy most and where you get the most engagement. Focus on one or two outlets. You do not have to be all things to all people. Find your people and invest in them.

With a little thought and a lot of heart, you can shift your social media strategy from a drudgery to a place of fun and creativity where you get to hold the keys to what is shared and said.

Keep it lighthearted, or dive deep into a subject you are passionate about. The rules and boundaries are up to you. Ask God for wisdom, and go write those words that are on your heart and mind. And be sure you share them with your people.

    Blessings,
