(Currently Not Used )Learning History & Progress Tracking

How do I track my course progress?

As a COMPEL Training member, you will be able to enroll in any course available in our course library. Enrolling in a course will add that course to your learning dashboard on your user profile and allow you to begin tracking your lesson completion progress. In each course and lesson your progress is visible in right sidebar of the page. COMPEL Training allows you to see a history of all courses you have completed as well as a list of courses you are currently involved in.

Can I retake a course?

You can always return to any course you have completed to access the lesson content for review and application.

Will Lysa or any member of the COMPEL team be able to give me personal feedback on my writing?

No, but we have developed our Community Groups and Course Discussion areas to be a place where you can connect with peers and ask general writing questions. We see the COMPEL training as the proactive side to improving your writing. The reactive side can be accomplished by connecting with a professional editorial service. As a COMPEL Member you can reference our Communicators Marketplace vendor list to connect with these professional service providers.

Can I talk to members of the COMPEL Leadership Team over the phone?

Although we do not offer phone support, we are always available to answer your questions and help you with any issue you are having! Simply submit your question on the Contact Page and someone will respond within a few business days.

Once I enroll in a course, how do I receive the teachings?

Once you enroll in a specific writing course, you will have immediate access to the first teaching in that course. You can watch the teachings at your own pace as well as complete the challenges at the end of each teaching on your own time. Once you have completed all teachings in a particular course, you can mark that course as complete and it will remain in your personal dashboard.

Will I receive a certificate or recognition when I complete selected courses?

Your learning path at COMPEL is self-directed. Although we don’t offer individual certificates or recognition awards for completion of courses, we love to celebrate with you! You are always invited to hop over to the community discussion group to share and celebrate your accomplishments with your fellow members. You’ll also be able to keep track of your progress and success on your personal dashboard so you will always know where you are and how much you’ve progressed in your pursuit to improving your writing and advance your publishing journey.

Can I download teaching content to my computer?

At this time, COMPEL teachings cannot be downloaded and can only be accessed while online and on the site. However, there are some free downloadable resources available to all members on the Free Resources page.

Is there homework?

Every week when a new teaching is posted, we’ll provide a challenge of sorts, or call to action, to help you put into practice what you learned from that particular teaching. Each teaching on the site, whether live or in a library course, will include these calls to action. These application items (aka, homework) are optional and are to be done independently but are intended to help you apply what you are learning, meet writing goals and experience the joy of accomplishment.

How do I complete my Action Items?

To complete action items, make sure each checklist item is complete and then click “Complete Lesson”. Once you complete your action items, the lesson will be recorded as complete and you will be able to move onto the next lesson.

How do I make my COMPEL activity private?

(Currently Not Used) Discussions and Community

What is the COMPEL Community all about and what’s so great about it?

We realize a writer’s life can feel lonely at times, which is why we consider our COMPEL community one of our greatest benefits to COMPEL members and what sets us apart from any other writing site. In addition, you can get involved in discussions with other writers about the weekly teachings and learn from each other while building new relationships and making new friends who understand you and your calling. You can also join one or more online groups which are of particular interest to you and create bonds with writers who share the same interests as well. COMPEL is not just a site to learn about writing; it’s a place to feel loved and at home while you pursue your dream to write.

What types of groups can I get involved with as a COMPEL member?

We have a variety of community groups to fit the needs of all our COMPEL members and foster and encourage discussion, engagement and relationship building among writers. These groups include topical writing groups, discussion groups about current teachings, new member groups, regional groups, writing critique groups and more. Rest assured, there is a group for everyone!

What is the COMPEL Book Club all about?

COMPEL Book Club studies take place several times a year and each one is approximately four to six weeks. Book Clubs take place in the Community Group area of the website. The Book Club books are carefully selected and used as a resource to teach members about different styles of writing. Members receive tips and advice to help improve their own writing while learning from a published author. Within the group setting, book club members have direct access to the author and the editor from the publishing company of the book. This type of book club study and learning method, as well as the unheard of access to talk directly to authors and top editors in the publishing industry, is unique to COMPEL.

How do I join a group in the new COMPEL website?

You can connect with any of our groups on the new Community Groups page. These groups will be moderated by our valuable team of volunteer group leaders and will provide you the opportunity to connect with COMPEL members that share your interests and similar writing goals.

Will my Facebook group still be active?

Our COMPEL Facebook groups will continue in their activity for a to-be-determined amount of time after the new site launches. Eventually, all of our community engagement will happen within the COMPEL website and you’ll no longer be required to maintain a separate Facebook account to connect with COMPEL members. COMPEL Training will continue to maintain a brand presence on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram even after these smaller groups transition into the new COMPEL environment.

How do I connect with other members taking the same course as me?

Each course on COMPEL Training will have its own course discussion space. This discussion board will be accessible via the course page and on your COMPEL dashboard.

Can I change my display name?

Your display name is static and cannot be changed after sign up. If you have a concern about this display name please contact our compel team at [email protected].

How do I make my COMPEL activity private?

If you’d like to set your account activity to private so that other COMPEL members cannot view your profile, please contact [email protected]. COMPEL visitors who are NOT members will never be able to access your member profile.

Help! I don't want to receive emails when people reply to my COMPEL training comments.

If you’d like to change the email preferences related to COMPEL community activity you can access the Email tab of your Account Settings. In this control panel, you will be able to turn different types of email notifications on and off including those related to comments, replies, friend requests and groups.

(Currently Not Used)Weekly Teachings

COMPEL Training features four new teachings every month. These teachings will belong to themed courses which we feel all of our members will love! Each course will focus on a specific area of writing, and all the teachings within the course will be about that topic. Have no fear – if a particular live series is focusing on a subject you’re not completely interested in, you’ll always have access to our entire course library! And, you can always return to a course and participate at a time that works with your schedule.

Weekly Lessons & Course Library

How do I participate in the COMPEL Classes?

Every Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. ET, in our member-exclusive Facebook group, the Connection Courtyard, we feature live lessons called Wednesday Workshops. To participate in the lessons, you must first become a COMPEL Training member.

Will I still have access to the teaching content if I’m not on Facebook on Wednesdays?

COMPEL has an entire Course Library with nearly 280 lessons, which can be accessed on the COMPEL Training website at your convenience. There are dozens of topical courses to enroll in and track your progress, or you can simply watch only the lessons you’re most interested in.

How do I track my course progress?

As a COMPEL Training member, you will be able to enroll in any course available in our Course Library. Enrolling in a course will add that course to your learning dashboard (on your user profile) and allow you to begin tracking your progress.

Can I retake a course?

Yes, you can always return to any course you have completed to access the lesson content for review.

Will Lysa or any member of the COMPEL team be able to give me personal feedback on my writing?

No, unfortunately. As much as the COMPEL Training staff would love to offer critique to our members on their writing projects, they simply do not have the capacity to do so. However, COMPEL offers peer-led Critique Groups which every member is encouraged to participate in! These groups are set up as small groups on Facebook with specific guidelines regarding critiquing each other’s work in an effort to help every member feel encouraged as they work on improving their craft.

Also, all members have 24/7 access to the approved vendor listing in the Communicators Marketplace which provides a list of professional editorial services to consider hiring, if needed.

Once I enroll in a course, how do I receive the lessons?

Once you enroll in a specific writing course, you will have immediate access to the first lesson in that course. A list of the lessons in the course will be available, and you can select which ones you want to watch, in the suggested order or in the order of your preference. You do not need to enroll in a course in order to watch any of the lessons; however, your progress in that course will not be tracked on your personal dashboard if you do not enroll. You can watch the lessons at your own pace as well as complete the lesson task assignments at the end of each teaching. Task assignments are challenges to help you practically apply what you learned in that lesson to your own writing.

Will I receive a certificate or recognition when I complete lessons or courses?

Although we don’t offer individual certificates or recognition awards for completion of courses, we love to celebrate with you! You are always invited to hop over to one of our Facebook groups to share and celebrate your accomplishments with your fellow members, as well as our weekly post in the Connection Courtyard called Confetti Friday!

You’ll also be able to keep track of your progress and success on your personal dashboard so you will always know where you are and how much you’ve progressed in your pursuit to improve your writing and advance your publishing journey.

Can I download teaching content to my computer?

No. COMPEL lessons cannot be downloaded and can only be accessed while logged in to the COMPEL site. Members can access the COMPEL site at any time.

Is there homework?

Each lesson you watch will offer task assignments for you to consider doing. These suggested task assignments help you practically apply what you learned in the lesson to your own writing. These assignments are optional but are helpful to take what you’ve learned and put it into action.

Members will be notified via email when a new book club is being announced and given instructions for how to get involved.
