Three Strategies To Increase Your Reach on Instagram

Reaching people on Instagram feels impossible sometimes, doesn’t it? Friend, this is most writers’ plague. Instagram can be tricky, so we want to help. Here are three strategies to increase your reach on Instagram. It might be simpler than you think …

Social media platform algorithms are constantly changing. And if you’re anything like me, it’s easy to feel like you’re always one step behind. Should I comment with one word or three? Should I post Reels or Stories? Are hashtags still relevant or completely outdated?

Those questions can keep us in a cycle of overthinking — and overthinking rarely leads to productive action. So today, let’s simplify things. Instead of chasing every new “algorithm hack,” let’s focus on three strategies that never go out of style and can dramatically increase your reach on Instagram.

1. Post all the things.

Here’s the thing: Reels reach new people, Stories deepen connection with your current followers, and static quotes and carousel posts give you content that can be saved and shared. Which one should you choose? The answer — don’t choose. Post them all.

Variety gives the Instagram algorithm more opportunities to display your content to people. One week, your Reel might blow up. Another week, a carousel post could be the one everyone’s sharing. The more consistent and varied your posting, the more opportunities you give your audience to discover and remember you.

2. Draw readers closer.

Growing your reach isn’t just about getting more eyeballs on your posts — it’s about pulling those eyeballs into meaningful connection. You want to move people from casual scrollers to engaged followers and then to a deeper space, such as your inbox or email list.

Invite people into conversation. Ask them to DM you a keyword so you can send them a resource. Pose a question and encourage them to answer in the comments. The more authentic interactions you create, the more Instagram will reward your content with visibility — and the more likely your followers are to become loyal fans.

3. Collaborate without fear.

One of the fastest ways to grow your reach is to tap into someone else’s audience. Collaborations aren’t just for big influencers — they’re for any creator who wants to serve and grow.

Reach out to a writer, coach, or content creator in your niche. Offer to do a Story swap, where you each introduce the other to your followers. Plan a joint Reel or Instagram Live around a topic that both of you care about. By showing up together, you’re multiplying your visibility and giving your audience fresh value at the same time.

Instagram growth doesn’t have to be complicated. Post with variety, deepen your connections, and join forces with others. Do these three things consistently, and you’ll see your reach grow — not because you cracked the latest algorithm secret but because you showed up with value, heart, and intention.

  1. This was so helpful! I’d love to learn more about how to get started with building a platform on Instagram. Up to this point, I’ve only ever had a personal account, and I’ve actually been on a bit of a social media break for over a year so I haven’t posted anything in quite a while.

I have a few questions, like:
Should I start a new account or use my existing one?
Do I need to have a batch of content ready before launching?
What’s the best way to introduce my platform?

I know there’s a Social Media Pathway course, and I was wondering if those topics are covered there. Any direction or advice would be so appreciated!
