How To Find a Writing Community
My early days of writing were lonely. It was just me and my laptop. I had nobody to help or support me in the way I needed. Sure, my husband and mother were cheering me on, but my heart yearned for people just like me to connect with. I needed friends who understood the challenges and struggles that come with writing. I wanted friends with whom I could celebrate the joys and victories. I longed for a community of people just like me, so I stepped out in faith and found one. If you are feeling lonely in your writing, here are two easy ways I found my people, and I know you can find yours too.
Head to a writers conference! There are so many advantages beyond the information you learn. People love to mingle, hand out cards, and even have lunch or dinner together. You’ll not only meet people you can collaborate with, but you can even meet authors, writing coaches, editors, publishers, and more. Most of all, you’ll find a sea of like-minded ladies who are waiting to be your friend.
You may be asking, “But how do I find a conference?” Look no further because Proverbs 31 Ministries’ She Speaks Conference is one you don’t want to miss. I have gone several times, and I always walk away blessed with new connections and friends. You can also search writers conferences online for other options. There are so many out there!
Join COMPEL Pro! It’s a writer’s dream. It has everything you could want when it comes to learning, but more importantly, it has an abundance of women who are in the same boat as you. You’ll meet friends in the cohorts and groups, and you can even message each other privately or make plans to meet up with members in your area. When it comes to meeting friends, COMPEL Pro is the place to be. I’ve met so many of my current friends in COMPEL Pro, and we have met up at She Speaks and had an absolute blast!
Friends, I know writing can be a lonely field, but it doesn’t have to be. Gaining a community of writer friends to share everything about writing with is enriching. You won’t be alone. Finding your people is now literally at your fingertips and within your reach. I did the above things myself, and I have gained so many new friends. It’s your turn! Step out in faith, and find your writing community today.
Blessings,
Melissa Labieniec
