Can You Really Make Money Blogging?

Can you make money with a blog? The short answer is yes. But let’s be clear: It takes time, patience and commitment.  Success won’t happen overnight. But if you’re a content creator feeling the pull to share your message and wondering if it can also help pay the bills, let’s dive into this together.

When I first started blogging, I had big dreams — visions of thousands of readers, sponsorships rolling in, and a steady stream of income. Reality check: The beginning was slow, and at times, it felt discouraging. There were moments I wondered, Is this even worth it? Am I truly called to this? Maybe you’re asking yourself the same questions.

Here’s the good news: If God has placed a message on your heart, He will make a way. But it’s going to require faithful stewardship of the gifts and resources He’s given you. Making money with a blog isn’t just about passion — it’s about strategy, consistency, and showing up even when it feels like no one is reading.

Before you start blogging, you need clarity. What is your blog about, and who are you trying to reach? Knowing your audience shapes everything — from the content you create to the ways you monetize your blog. 

Now that we’ve identified the “who,” let’s talk about the “how.” There are several ways to make money with a blog:

1. Affiliate marketing. Partner with companies or products you genuinely believe in, and earn a commission when your readers make purchases through your links. Always let readers know that the post contains affiliate links and that when they click an affiliate link, you will earn a small commission.
2. Sponsored posts. Work with brands to create content that aligns with your blog’s mission and values.
3. Digital products. Create e-books, devotionals or courses that serve your audience. 
4. Ads. Use platforms like Google AdSense to earn revenue from ads on your site. Just be mindful not to overwhelm your readers with too many ads.
5. Services. Offer your expertise in areas like writing, coaching or web design. You never know what skills you possess that may help another content creator launch or grow their ministry.

You can make money with a blog, but more importantly, you can make an impact. Don’t get so caught up in the financial side that you forget why you started. Trust that God can use your blog to bless others and provide for your needs. Philippians 4:19 says, “And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus” (NIV). Hold on to that promise as you walk this journey.

Again, if you’ve wondered whether you can make money blogging, the answer is yes. But the bigger question is: Are you willing to commit to the process? If you are, God can do immeasurably more than you could ask or imagine through your blog. Take the first step, and trust Him with the rest.
