Is there a secret to growing your email list? We know it’s important to have an opt-in, but how can we actually spread the word once we’ve created one? Today we’ve put together 21 ways to promote your subscriber opt-in so you can watch your email list grow like crazy. Read more to find out how ...

An email list is key to creating a community of readers. The list gives you direct access to readers who want to engage with your content without having to rely on the latest algorithm.

And one of the keys to growing an email list? A subscriber opt-in. A subscriber opt-in, sometimes called a lead magnet or freebie, is a free resource like an e-book, quiz, or printable offered in exchange for an email address. You may have an incredible opt-in, but it can only grow your email list if readers know about it. Let’s look at 21 ways to promote your subscriber opt-in.

Your Website

1. Alert bars — also called sticky or floating bars: Added through a plug-in or website design, these bars float at the top of all content as a reader scrolls down a page.

2. Navigation bar: The top menu on your website and typically static when readers move to different pages and posts.

3. Sidebar: The area on the side of the desktop — create an image and freebie link.

4. “About” page: Often overlooked, this page is one of the first places new readers visit.

5. Posts specifically targeting your opt-in: Write posts relating to your opt-in to draw in readers and offer your resource.

6. In content: Go through relevant, top posts and place in-content links to your opt-in.

7. Landing page: Create a landing page highlighting your opt-in’s value.

8. Footer: Create a footer with an image, description, and link to your opt-in.

Social Media

9. Pinterest: Create multiple Pinterest pins linking to your landing page or the subscriber opt-in form, and then regularly share these across your boards.

10. Pinterest: Add your freebie link and a call to action to your Pinterest homepage.

11. Instagram: Create an opt-in link in your bio and any bio tool like Linktree or site landing page with links.

12. Instagram: Create a highlight for your freebie and point readers to your link in bio.

13. Comment responses: On Instagram and Facebook, ask readers to reply with a specific word to get a link to your opt-in, and then message or reply to each responder with your opt-in link. Responders must follow you on Instagram to get your message. I’ve done this by hand (free) and used a service like Manychat (paid).

14. Facebook: Share the opt-in under your header linked to the sign-up button, or create a header image of your freebie linked to a sign-up button.

15. Facebook: Share the opt-in link in your bio and “About” space.

16. Pinned posts: Create pinned posts about your lead magnet for Facebook, Instagram, Threads, TikTok, LinkedIn, and other social media platforms.

17. Stories: Share stories about your lead magnet, and link it in relevant stories on Instagram and Facebook.

Other

18. Add your subscriber opt-in link to your static email signature.

19. Podcasts: Put a description and link in the show notes on your podcast. Mention it when guest podcasting, and direct listeners to your opt-in rather than your website at large.

20. Speaking: Share a slide with the QR code to your freebie, and display the QR code at your speaker table.

21. Your author bio: Link to your subscriber opt-in on guest posts rather than your website at large.
