The First COMPEL Writing Challenge of 2020 is Underway!

COMPEL Training is excited to announce our next publishing opportunity in conjunction with Proverbs 31 Ministries.

In September 2020, Proverbs 31 Ministries will publish a printed piece titled “Reminders That God is Still in Control” featuring devotions written exclusively by COMPEL members. This piece will contain between 30 and 45 devotions on the topics of anxiety, worry and stress. It will be promoted on all our ministry outlets and given to people who donate to Proverbs 31 Ministries.

COMPEL members are invited to submit one devotion that will remind the reader that in the midst of all the hard places in life, amongst worries and concerns, we have a heavenly Father who cares and is able to help.

Here are the details about the submissions:

  • Only devotions focused on the topic of anxiety, worry, stress and trusting God through the hardships of life will be considered.
  • Include a key verse and make sure it is woven into the devotion.
  • Keep the body of the devotion under 500 words.
  • Keep the devotion consistent with the casual, friendly style used in Encouragement for Today.
  • Challenge yourself to look at Scripture in a fresh way as you write your devotion. You might highlight a seldom-used verse or approach the topic from a new way. We’ll be looking for submissions that don’t feel tired or typical. Review Lysa’s teaching “Escape the Trap of Tired, Typical Writing” if you want to understand more about what we mean by this. (Note: You must be logged in for this link to work.)

We will select the winners by the end of February and announce them in the Weekly Word and the Connection Courtyard. In addition to the blessing of having your writing featured in a published booklet that will get into the hands of thousands of Proverbs 31 donors, winners will receive 3 copies of the printed product for themselves and two friends! The book will also be available for purchase later in the year from the Proverbs 31 bookstore and reach even more people with your message!  (Contributors agree that they retain the copyright to their work and no profits will be received from book sales.)

Devotion submissions will be accepted from January 6 to January 31. The review of submissions will take place during the month of February, and all winners will be announced in early March.

To submit your devotion, please send an email with your attached devotion to [email protected] with the subject line “Devotion Book Submission.”
